WD passport not showing up on Mac

If your WD Passport is not showing up on your Mac, it can be due to connection issues, unsupported formats, or macOS settings. First, ensure the drive is properly connected using a working USB cable and port. Then, go to Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility) to see if the drive appears there. If it’s visible but grayed out, try clicking Mount. If it still doesn’t appear, check System Information > USB to confirm if the drive is being detected at the hardware level.

Sometimes, WD Passport drives are formatted in NTFS, which macOS can read but not write to, and may occasionally fail to mount. If needed, reformat the drive to exFAT or Mac OS Extended (Journaled)—but note this will erase all data. You should back up data first on a Windows system if possible.

Also, try installing WD Discovery or ensuring your Mac’s Finder preferences allow external disks to be shown on the desktop and sidebar. If the drive doesn’t spin up or isn't recognized at all, it may be a hardware issue. In that case, test it on another computer before considering professional help or replacement.
